Targeted removal of severely diseased incisors to relieve chronic pain and improve quality of life.

EOTRH, Equine Odontoclastic Tooth Resorption and Hypercementosis, is a complex disease process affecting the incisors and surrounding tissues, typically developing over many years. Progressive destruction of dental and bony structures, along with structural changes, leads to inflammation and, in some cases, significant pain. Especially in early stages, this pain is not always clearly detectable.
Affected horses often show changes in eating behavior, pain when biting, and reduced performance. Some animals appear generally quieter or more withdrawn. Pain may be present even when the incisors still appear largely normal externally.
If the incisors are significantly damaged and conservative treatments no longer provide sufficient relief, extraction of the affected teeth is often the last option to permanently eliminate chronic pain and restore the horse’s quality of life.
Extraction is performed under controlled clinical conditions with appropriate sedation, targeted pain management, and proper regional anesthesia. A careful, tissue-preserving technique helps protect surrounding structures and supports uncomplicated healing.
Following healing, most horses show a marked improvement in comfort, eating behavior, and overall well-being. In many cases, quality of life and vitality improve significantly and sustainably.
